137 People Changed A Particle's Behavior Without Touching It. That Should Bother You.
A physics result that refuses to go away, why the machine explanation fell apart the moment they tested it, and what it means for the guy who's been told his own mind doesn't matter.
Physicists wanted to settle one question. Is light made of particles or waves? So they built a simple test. Fire light at a barrier with two slits in it and see how it lands on the screen behind. Particles would leave two clean bands, one behind each slit. Waves would spread out, pass through both slits, and ripple into an interference pattern of many stripes.
They fired individual particles at it, one at a time, expecting two neat bands. Instead they got the interference pattern. Each single particle, with nothing around it to interfere with, was somehow going through both slits at once and interfering with itself. Light was behaving like a wave even when sent one particle at a time.
Physicists could live with that, barely. Then somebody asked the question that broke it wide open. What happens if we watch which slit it actually goes through?
So they ran the exact same test again, this time with a detector placed at the slits to observe each particle’s path. And the wave behavior vanished. With something watching, each particle picked one slit like a normal solid object and left two clean bands, no interference at all. Same experiment. The only thing that changed between the two runs was whether the particles were being observed. Observed, they acted like particles. Unobserved, they acted like waves.
That’s the double-slit experiment, it’s over a hundred years old, and it’s still one of the most argued-about results in physics. Sit with it for a second, because where it goes next is going to land a lot closer to home than a lab bench.
There’s a version of you reading this right now who’s already decided this is woo woo nonsense. Good. That guy is exactly who I wrote this for, because keep reading and you’re going to watch the most obvious skeptical objection to all this get tested directly and fall apart.
The Explanation That Was Supposed To Kill This
For years the mainstream answer was simple and comforting. The detector did it. A measuring device is a physical thing, and when it interacts with a particle that small, it bumps it, disturbs it, knocks it into behaving like a solid object. Nothing mystical going on. The machine caused the change, and consciousness had nothing to do with any of it.
That explanation had one job. Keep the mind out of the picture. And for a long stretch it worked, because it sounded reasonable and nobody had cleanly tested it.
Then researchers decided to actually test it.
They set up the double-slit apparatus and instead of a mechanical detector, they used people. Human participants sitting near the equipment, directing focused attention toward the slits. No contact. No device touching the particles. No mechanical interaction of any kind. Just awareness, pointed at the experiment.
The interference pattern decreased. The same shift a mechanical detector produced, except this time the only thing “watching” was a human mind.
One hundred and thirty-seven people took part across six controlled experiments, 250 sessions in total. When they focused their attention toward the slits, the particles moved toward the behavior you only get when something is observing them. When attention was pulled away, the wave behavior came back. The effect tracked directly with the presence and the quality of human attention, and the researchers went down the list ruling out everything else. Temperature. Vibration. Signal drift. Equipment artifacts. None of it accounted for the result. The one variable that kept moving the needle was focused human consciousness.
Then it got worse for the skeptics, not better.
The people who meditated regularly produced the effect at roughly two and a half times the strength of the people who didn’t. The more trained and disciplined the attention, the bigger the measurable change in the physical behavior of the particles. That’s a dose-response relationship, the same kind of pattern you see when a bigger dose of a drug produces a bigger effect. And a machine doesn’t do that. A detector doesn’t get better results after it’s been meditating. The quality of the mind mattered, which is the one thing the mechanical explanation can’t survive.
Read that again if you skimmed it, because it’s the hinge the entire rest of this rests on. Not “thoughts are powerful” as a slogan. A measured, replicated, dose-dependent effect of human attention on physical matter.
What The Hermeticists Said A Century Before Anyone Ran The Numbers
Here’s where this stops being a physics curiosity.
In 1908 a book came out with no author’s name on it. Just a group calling themselves the Three Initiates, seven principles, and a claim that the wisdom traced back thousands of years to ancient Egypt. The very first principle they laid down, before vibration, before cause and effect, before any of the rest, was this. The universe is mental.
Not “the universe has some mental stuff in it.” The universe is mental at its foundation. Matter isn’t the bottom layer that accidentally produced consciousness. Consciousness is the bottom layer, and matter is what it looks like when that underlying intelligence expresses itself into form. They put that principle first on purpose, because if you don’t grasp it, none of the other six make any sense.
The physicists running those double-slit experiments were not trying to prove a 1908 occult text. They were running controlled science and reporting what came out of it. What came out of it was that focused human attention produces measurable, repeatable changes in the behavior of matter. That is exactly what the first principle predicts, arrived at from the completely opposite direction.
And here’s the part that reaches into your actual life. Every thought you have is already a physical event. Think about something that pisses you off and your cortisol climbs, your heart rate jumps, your muscles tighten. The thought came first, the body followed. That connection is so well documented nobody argues it anymore. Your brain is an electrochemical organ, and the electrical activity running your thoughts generates a field that instruments can measure extending past your skin. You are not a sealed box thinking private thoughts that stay locked inside bone. You’re broadcasting, right now, whether you ever agreed to or not.
The Groove You’ve Been Wearing Without Noticing
Neurons that fire together wire together. A thought you have once is just a thought. A thought you run on repeat carves an actual pathway in your neurology, and that pathway gets easier to travel every single time until it becomes a default you don’t even notice you’re choosing.
What you think consistently, you become. Not just in your head. In the physical structure of your brain.
So put the pieces together. Your repeated thoughts are physically reshaping your brain. Your brain is generating a field that extends past your body. And focused human attention has a measured effect on matter at the quantum level. The influence of what you think doesn’t stop at the inside of your skull. It runs your body chemistry, it rewires your neurology, and it radiates outward into everything around you.
The man who consistently runs himself as capable, focused, moving toward something worth having is not just having nicer thoughts than the guy stuck in resentment and limitation. He’s running a completely different program at the level of his biology and the field he’s putting out, and over years those two programs build two entirely different lives. That’s not a pep talk. That’s the mechanism, and it’s been quietly measured across neuroscience, physics, and intention research that never set out to agree with a mystical text and ended up agreeing with it anyway.
This is the whole reason the Principle of Mentalism sits first in the stack. You can’t work with vibration until you understand your own thoughts have a frequency. You can’t work with cause and effect until you see that your habitual thinking is one of the loudest causes running in your life. Every other principle is built on this one foundation, that your mind is not a bystander watching a world it can’t touch.
That’s what The Kybalion Revisited does across all seven principles. It takes the ancient framework, lays it next to the modern science that keeps accidentally confirming it, and then does the part almost nobody bothers with. It shows you how to actually use it. And here’s the promise I’ll make you straight up, the same one I make on the show every week. You don’t have to believe the quantum stuff. You don’t have to buy the mysticism. You don’t have to be sold on any of it. You just have to follow the instructions and apply them, because this is universal law, and universal law doesn’t check whether you believe in it before it works. Gravity doesn’t ask for your faith. Neither does this.
Kindle, paperback, and hardcover are all live right now. The Audible edition is expected August 5th, so if listening is more your speed, set a calendar reminder.
That skeptic reading this at the start had it backwards, and now he knows it. The question was never whether your mind touches the reality around you. The experiments settled that part. The only thing left to sort out is whether you’re going to keep running that program by accident, or finally take the wheel on purpose.

Thank you and WOW! This gives whole new meaning to personal study, meditation and direction/purpose in life.
